Whispers in the Rain

Hydrangea, clustered by tiny flowers into a large pom-like blossom, is also his name. Gentle but distant would be the first impression Hydrangea gives most of the time, thanks to his courteous and modest demeanor, also his aura of seclusion. What is well known about him is that he was grown in Ul'dah as a thaumaturge and a mortician in Arrzaneth Ossuary, and goes back to his original profession in the wake of grueling and exhausting years of adventures. More secrets are concealed behind his faint smile, yet how to find the key to them?

People now can find Hydrangea most of the time in Ul'dah and Old Sharlayan, who is more likely spotted along with books or academic papers. If you are an aetherologist, perhaps his preference of solitude is just a rumor to you; of course it doesn't matter if not. Hydrangea never hesitates to show his friendly side to those who are willing to enjoy sweets with him. Those sensitive to aetheric perception will find the aether in his body as chaotic as tangled yarn, and no secret that he was struck and scarred by a voidsent. It's time for the erstwhile sorcerer to seek a cure right now. Who knows what mysteries he would discover along the way.

RP Hooks

  • Sharlayan Visitor: His longing for the nation of scholars dates back to Nyunkrepf's Hope. Yet now thanks to the referral from a Sharlayan citizen did he manage to set foot on this land. He is currently working as part-time research assistant to a professor in aetherology.

  • Aether deficiency: People with low aether capacity are not rarely seen among Eorzean, but how about it for a thaumaturge? Not to mention the convoluted traits of his aether. Thankfully someone brought him the motivation to make a difference, while some other one brought him the hope for a cure.

  • Confident Magician: Do not risk challenging him even though knowing his inadequacy in aether. He is still confident in his magic manipulation and will cast deadly spells no matter what they cost...Nevertheless, he is not a person to be easily provoked.

  • Former Adventurer: Hydrangea once was an experienced adventurer full of passion. He would like to share the joy and pain during expeditions if you ask, but will never be the one who brings up this topic. Does the sorcerer still miss the old days?

  • Lalafell Friendly: Being raised by the guild, he treats the Lalafells at the Ossuary and the Quicksand as his family, and willing to get along with more of this race.

  • Bookworm: He always buries themself into piles of tomes, unconsciously excluding all the distractions around him. Try harder to capture his attention from the books.

  • Sweet Tooth: Such a crazy sweet tooth Hydrangea has that you can even call it a quirk to him. Coffee and tea without sugar are scarcely drinkable for him. He even mixes wine with fresh juice, not minding the fragrance of the wine itself.

History

Character and Main Scenario Spoiler warning!

Born in a sub-tribe of Jackel located at the Mount Yorn in 1550 of the Sixth Astral Era, the second son of this family was named J'rinha Tia, whose birth meanwhile tolled the death knell for his mother. The skinny Rinha didn't draw much attention from his father, and thus he was frequently bullied by his older siblings. At the age of 5, he was deceived by his sister into hiking from the Mount Yorn to Ala Gannha, but hunger and exhaustion had already beaten him on the halfway. Right when a Crag Claw almost killed him, a wandering red mage saved Rinha. After learning the truth he declined to return, and instead decided to join with the mage, from whom he grasped the basics of magic.During two years of travel, the tyranny of King Theodric had thrown the entire region of Gyr Abania into turmoil. Before his mentor along with his fellow red mages formed the Crimson Duelists fighting for revolution, the young Rinha was sent to the Black Shroud seeking a peaceful life. Yet it was only the extension of his wandering life, not the end. The Keepers and Duskwights dwelling in the Shroud shut him out, while the guard of Gridania also expelled him for being an Ala Mhigan. Fortunately the Brother E-Sumi-Yan spotted Rinha and allowed his stay in the Stillglade Fane, so that he finally got a shelter. The days spent in the Twelveswood did not last long either. His limitations in healing magic refrained him from finishing his duty, while his pursuit of more destructive spells couldn't be fulfilled. Rinha embarked on the journey again, but this time he was determined to his destination, the thaumaturge's guild in Ul'dah, where he first made his talents well-known not long after. The following years were simple and leisurely, when he made a place for himself in the city by his outstanding ability in thaumaturgy. Only a trifling incident occurred near his adulthood. Rinha was called back home by his father for over half a year. Upon his reappearance in Ul'dah, he was surrounded by an unsettling aura, and soon abandoned his tribe name. Inspired by his fondness for a certain flower in the wood, he named himself Hydrangea. Even though rumors flowed that a Seeker's tribe of Jackle was perished in the Peaks, he had always been keeping a lid on what happened to him in those days. Nothing seemed to be affected except his new name, and after that Hydrangea formed a light party with his friends for adventures, spending countless days of thrill and excitement together. This pleasant time met a radical end due to the Calamity. Hydrangea and his group members were escorting residents living in an outlying village to a shelter when the Dalamud fell apart, and one of the fiery beam from Bahamut hit them. Just before being engulfed in flames he was rescued and brought to safety by his closest friend, who died from burns and infection shortly. The momentary disaster broke his will. But when noticing another fireball aiming at the shelter, he burst out with all his power to shatter it with his most devastating spell ever, before losing consciousness. The post-Calamity years faded away into idleness. He got active again as an adventurer, and didn't belong to any specific group. He was then ambushed by a Voidsent, and found his aether within was destroyed. A man called Huguemont came into his life, and confessed his love to him. He accepted the man, and tried to love him. But just when he fell for him, the man left him without a word. Life was not serene, and it seemed nothing would enlighten his life anymore. Maybe things are getting change right now on him...
